What does Morse Code sound like?

The sound you're hearing in the background (or if you don't, you can use the link below). That is the sound of my call sign in Morse Code.

Actually, the sound of Morse code is surprisingly familiar isn't it? Even to new hams - we hear it in old movies, on TV, in music and other odd places.

I've started to study Morse Code, but so far progress is slow. It's given me a new appreciation of early radio communication though, so even if I never gain mastery of it, the study hasn't been wasted.

The following sound files are helping me practice - these are the sounds are the letters of the alphabet followed by the numbers, at different pitches.
